That's the only way other than a BIOS dissable feature that the shared RAM will be fully released. A hardware solution is always preferable, but if the BIOS is your only option go to it. A friend of mine had a comp with onbard RAM and he upgraded to a voodoo3 the mainboard still shared 1 meg of memory. But that was because neither the board nor the BIOS had a dissable feature. In order to dissable the onboard we had to kill it in the device manager.
