Did you install this yourself, or buy it pre-built?

If this is a home-built machine and a feature called "ACPI" was set to "enable" in the BIOS (CMOS) during the Win2k installation, then several of your system's hardware devices may be assigned to, and are fighting for, just one of 16 resources known as IRQs. (Normally, a typical system's hardware devices will be sharing about six or seven of those.)

If this is indeed the case, then it is possible that the soundcard becomes a "one-too-many" factor when you launch a song...
