If you like to tweak, I'd go for the VIA. If you prefer stability uber alles, AMD is your choice.

Mind you, I have a box running Win2K on an MSI K7TPro2A that is solid as a rock, so a mobo manufacturer can improve upon VIA's less than stellar stability.
