are both drives on the same ribbon cable?
if so this could be the problem. my system would seem to act like it could not see my normal Cdrom when I had it on the same ribbon cable. When I added an extra controller card and put my Cdrom on it and left my Creative Labs Cdrw on the motherboard controller by it self they both worked fine. (besides the instructions that came with my CDrw said they recomend it to be on it's own cable.)
