Sledge can you remember which Aureal Drivers you used with the Sound card I got from you? I'm using AU8830 file version 4.06.2048 which should be the right ones.

Here's the deal, this machine is giving me a major migraine. It all started a few months back when it gave me a stack overflow and I traced that to the onboard sound card. So I disabled everything relating to it in BIOS and then put in
the Aureal Vortex2 card. Then it booted and let me reinstall winders overitself. Which it wouldn't get into winders before I did that w/o WPF's, etc. But it's not what I'd call a really stable machine. If I run 24/7 and then reboot it takes me 3 or 4 times to get back into winders and it seems to be with the sound drivers. I say seems because it could be a zillion other things. But that one stands out more than other things. Yesterday it had a registry error on reboot and then fixed that and went into windows w/o a hitch. Booted fine today after a shut down. It flies to the WIN98 Splash screen and then sits going through configuration of the Aureal Drivers. After you wait like what seems like an eternity it will get to the desktop. When you hear the sound start up, I just hold my breath. Either it'll finish loading winders or lock up and I have to reboot.

Kinda perplexing. I know what it's not, but it still leaves me wondering if the overclock is too much for the Duron, the mainboard itself isn't quite right or if there is something else I'm missing.

Epox 8KTA+, Duron 600@800 at default Volts. Enermax 350Watt PS, V3-2000 PCI, 256 meg PC133 Micron Ram, Maxtor 30.7 gig ATA66 5400RPM HDD, Plextor 8/4/32 Burner, Toshiba 48X CD-ROM, Zip 100 & Floppy. Aureal Vortex 2 Sound Card. Average system temp is 33C and same for CPU temp. MBM shows voltages running ok. So does BIOS.

Direct X Diagnostics doesn't show any problems except it says the Aureal Wave driver is not M$ Certified.

Still think it's an Aureal Driver somewhere that's not quite right......but any good ideas appreciated. Just flaky and locks in my game if I have alot of sound related happenings and this game is chocked full of sound.

"Ben" if your reading this...no I'm not going to reinstall winders. I firmly believe it's good for at least 4 or 5 different mainboards before I need to do this...maybe a couple years from now.
