Both of my systems (AMD Irongate, and a VIA MVP3)have the same OS (win'98SE), and Vortex 2 sound cards and ATA 66 7200 rpm harddrives.
I mention the the Vortex 2 cards because are notorious sluggish bootup pigs. Both of my machines will boot up much faster without them.
Even my old i430TX/K6 233 combo boots faster than my MSI6195 1 GHz T-Bird combo. It's not just my Athlon that's slow either. My MVP3G-M K6-3+ 550 honestly boots faster than a 1 GHz PIII.
Seriously. A SS7 with a K6-3+ is a fast booting little bitch.
