I have an Epox 8KTA+, that had an onboard sound problem. Actually everthing went nuts on the board
and I found it was the onboard sound. Evidently it sort of died or was dying and messed things up. Wonder if your chip went out? I disabled it everywhere I could find, stuck in a PCI Aureal Vortex and haven't looked back. This was AC97 also.
