A company doesn't just "HOLD" market share. It's not something you can take, it's something you earn: by producing superior products, either by price or features, or both.
My point is this (and I'll allow you 1 rebuttal, but I'm really tired of trying to explain this to people): if MS and Intel weren't doing an excellent job at SATISFYING CUSTOMERS NEEDS, they wouldn't be the dominant players in their respective markets right now. You can't force people to give you their money. They do it willingly.
I have used Linux off an on for a couple years, and I have to say that it is just now getting to the point where it is ALMOST a viable alternative. The reason it is taking so long, in my opinion, is that there is no capital driving it's development, nor is there the accountability that comes with taking $$$ for a product.
OpenSource is a great development method, and has great benefits in terms of scientific advancement, but it just doesn't seem to work very well in a capitalist market.
And if I seem like I'm on the rag, it's because I am. I've also got sand in my vagina I am a hardcore user of Microsoft Technology as I work for a Microsoft Certified Solutions Provider. I am not about the bite the hand that feeds me. (The difference between a MS programmer and a Linux programmer: the MS programmer gets paid)
