Ludi has the air temp stuff right, the only real reason to use another PS is if the one you have now is being run near the max current levels, like all the PCI slots are filled (5 or 6 & 1 CD player/writer & 1 DVD player & two Hard Drives with a known only decent PSU.

So the best advice is to use a second computer PSU, your case must have lots of room or just
leave the second PSU outside the case & extend the wires. Normal regular PS's are different then computer PS types, computer PS's are much cheaper. We advise people with the second
PS to drive all the drives (HD, floppy, CDrom, DVD) & all the fans to help the first PS out.
Anyway you should be able to come up with a old AT type computer PSU for a good price, you may even have one laying around. The new type PSU the ATX has to have some changes to it
to power on the PSU without a MoBo plugged in. I Asume even the newer PSU's for the latest CPU's need to be changed, I do not even have any diagrams but they would cost to much anyways.
