I have 256 in my WinME box and I think that's plenty for websurfing and gaming. If I go for a dual AMD processor machine later in the year, I may put 384 to 512 just so each processor has enough RAM to do it's thing.

RAM is just so cheap, you can't help but get a bit extra. I bought a stick of PC2100 256meg Micron DDR RAM for $75 recently. That's only 29 cents a meg!
