You do not have to worry about what multiplier you are using sice the Intel stuff is locked and there is no realistic way at present to change that. Your mobo will default to whatever the chip tells it to. The only things you can set are voltage and FSB.

I have a P3V4X as well and I thik the most current bios is 1.05.(check Asus) I don't really think it matters to much what bios you are using in this case but I might not hurt to try the most current one if you don't already have it.

If you determine that the processor is good then I don't see any reason that it should not work. Keep the updates comming and eventually one of the very knowledgable people here will steer you in the right direction.
