it is hard to tell what will happen, with the new 4i Rambus you will have four pages per channel active all the time (as opposed to up to 16 pages in the original design) which will increase the number of random accesses by about (statistically) twofold and with that, also the initial latencies.

On the other hand, the 4i design (independent as opposed to shared sense amplifiers) will reduce the costs (only 4 banks instead of 16) and, thus provide the basis for a cost effective 4 channel architecture.

Needless to say that there are no controllers available at the moment that could take advantage of this and one of the issues is clearly whether Intel will have their designs ready before Rambus bites the "roots".

Nonetheless, Pete McWilliams, Luis Burns and particularly Pat Gelsinger appear to have some personal stakes in the welfare of Rambus and since they are VPs at Intel, there may be a lot of clout to what they have to say ..
