I was to replace my current 56k external modem that performed sub-par with an internal PCI modem.

I install the PCI mod, windows detects new hardware, I install relevant software - the actual model is unknown by me / previous owner (friend) - does anyone know where conexant chipset drivers can be d/led from?

so it assigns COM5 to it.. Fair enough, I goto connect, "cannot open port", I check system settings, apparently only COM1 & COM2 are installed.
So I 'add hardware' and add new com ports, it adds com3, com4 but somehow skips com5 and goes to com6, com7 etc.
the modem says "check that modem is installed properly or turned on etc"
any ideas? remove driver, add com5 (if it'll work) and see how it goes?
