I used one for a while in high school while driving a Chevy Celebrity b/c it didn't even have a tape deck to plug my CD adapter into.
The transmitter I used came from either Wal-Mart or Kmart and let you vary the frequency anywhere across the dial. Well and good except it didn't have a good range, I had to tape it up on the dashboard to get a good signal to the car antenna. Also as it got older the tuner dial got loose and the car vibrations would shake it off of the correct frequency while driving.
I tried that RadioShack one, too, and discovered another interesting possibility: The frequencies the RS device was outputing were slightly off from the digital-tuner frequencies on the car radio, so it wouldn't work. I tried the device inside on an analog-tuned stereo and it worked fine, so I figure that was the problem.
I have an in-dash CD player in my Toyota and needless to say I've done some serious Audio CD burning ever since getting my AOpen 12x10x32...
