Not quite, you need to install all chipset drivers and delete the old entries. It should work, though, the other way around would be more difficult.

Install the new hardware, then go into safe mode, delete all duplicate devices and reboot. You didn't specify whether you are using an Intel or VIA chipset, though which can make a bit of a difference.
