24x sounds like heavy plant machinery on my 233, it still chugs along OK tho, mind you the floppy is another matter, it is a disc killer (must get a replacement keep forgetting)

if it is actually the HDD you might consider backing up any files you need somehow asap

AFAIK the cpu has no moving parts (electrons dont count IMHO), but the fan can get noisy which is easy to replace and cheap too
