and we are, don't forget that many of the original issues with VIA chipsets were caused by Intel making e.g. the AGP a proprietary interface so that any other manufacturer had to find workaround and software emulation (e.g. VIA GART). Meanwhile, these solutions work better than the original Intel stuff.

There are good boards out there, both from Intel and VIA (chipsets) and there is a whole bunch of crap on both sides, too. You get what you pay for except that there are a few good bargains on the VIA front that blow away any Intel based solution in terms of performance and reliability.
