You should be able to use an early P3. Up to the Slot 1 P3 600, it was just a P2 with SSE instructions added. Look for a slot 1 chip with 512 MB cache.

For the price that I saw for the old P3 600 on Pricewatch, though, you're better off with a new motherboard with an AMD Duron.
