yes, it can be done, and, in most cases, rather easily.

My original laptop CPU was a 433 Celeron, and upgrading it to a 533 was a snap. didi't even get a mobile version, just stuck in a regular celey and it works like a charm.

as far as heat goes, i clipped some metal and plastic from the intake and exhaust vents and added arctic silver to aid with the cooling.

gewtting to the processor couldn't be easier, just access from the bottom panel with the air intake, it is pretty easy.
