Hi All....Interesting to hear all the comments about Win ME, and problems with systems. I have one thing to say (my opinion) I will never buy another MB with Via Chipsets. I have had three systems recently completely messed up because of the Via chipsets. AND even when you download the updates from Via site, they still do not want to install properly. I did an upgrade to my MB with an Intel CS to a MB with Via CS,had Win98SE O/S, system would absolutely not work properly. Finally I did a clean install of Win98SE,reloaded the updated Via Drivers, that resolved the problem. I subsuquently had Win ME installed and removed it from my system as it was not stable. I since upgraded to 256MB ram and different video card, system worked perfectly under Win98SE, reinstalled WinME, it now works perfect. Someone commented about hardware combinations causing problems, I agree, also, if the bios level recorded on a HD that you move to a new system changes, expect to have problems. The only way to resolve this as far as I can see is to do a clean install of the OS. |
