DHCP is Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. That's for assigning IP addresses, DNS Server, and other such stuff. If you can't even get the OS to recognize the NIC, DHCP is useless. Have you run ifconfig to setup the NIC? Are there any configuration files in /etc for the NIC drivers?
