Been off with the faries....here's one for you tinkerers...

the board is going strong guys.

Not that anyone will be interested....I've Spent the last month buying a setop DVD player and making S/VCD's and miniDVD's on CD from TV programs, my DVCam and DVD's.

THe good thing for the tweakers out there is that it is fully upgradedable with EPROM flahses which can be downloaded from various places.
Also for high bit rate MiniDVD's ie: >6Mbps, you can swap the drive 'cause its a simple IDE connection.
Presently I'm looking at hitachiDVD which can read 4.7GB DVD-R's. One guy has made it work okay and the tinker factor is not difficult but challenging enuf.

I've also just encoded all my 33xCD collection (I had already sold 60 CD's 12 months ago) onto 3MP3CD's at 160kbps and they sound great through the setop DVD player.
It also reads CDR and CDRW and the miniDVD's and SVCD's with menus are a reall winner.
