It was just a matter of time.
Hell, all they had to do was change the embedded instructions during the final assembly.
I guess they had a few extra's in the bins, could easily be downgraded 1 gig's. Intel is not selling their processors at the same rate as before with AMD's recent resurgence, so this is a good way to get rid of them.
