Sure record companies are getting the short side of the straw because of napster. But that's what happened when the vcr came out. People where scared of videos being copied and made a big deal about it. I think the same thing goes with this. In Canada record sales for the year actually where up. Even if napster goes down people will still be able to download music.

As a napster user I would think it would work if they came up with some kind of system where we would only pay for 1 song from an album.. and not pay for the other 12 shitty songs.
