Another video card question

I have a friend who is purchasing a new computer soon and he wants to get a decent video card in order to be able to play all the newest games (presently he has a pentium 166!!). He was willing to spend about $300 cdn so that would probabaly get him a Radeon or maybe a geforce2 Gts 32Mb. Should he wait a little while 'till the new cards come out. It seems that recently video cards just get more and more expensive so I was wondering if the prices on the older models would move significantly.
