Win2000 playing DVD's

Hey, I just upgraded to win2k pro, and I can not get dvd's to play properly. It will start playing fine, with sound and all, , then the sounds quits, and a few seconds later, the vide freezes, and then windows wont reboot properly after that. I have the absolute latest drivers for everything on my system, the only candidates I can think of for casing this wuld be y video or sounds card, i have an ati rage 128 32mb card, ad a diamond mm mx300 for sound. i let windows update take care of the drivers for the sound, and it gave me some straight from ms, but they werent even signed for the win2k, pretty likely that this is the cause? or anyone have any other suggestions, could it be the dvd player I am using, powerDVD 2.55? Thanks for any help guys.
