To keep the drive from opening after a burn when you use Nero, go to File\preferences\advanced features and check the box next to "Don't open drive when finished burning".

I've had the TDK less than a month and I've only burned 1 CDRW disk. I think I was out of the room when it finished, so I don't know if it gave that "drive invalid" message or not.
